hey hewk | ||

I'm slowly dropping my dosage down, i might try 2grams for the next few weeks and see what happens. I've never been a big fan of the topical b5, i've used the acnemiracle stuff, makes my skin itch like crazy, and it stinks phew.

Topical B5 | ||
|
I have also used Acnemiracle's topical B5. It contains a lot of other ingredients, and makes it stink a bit and it's a bit visible. I have never used it like 4 times a day, so I don't really now how effective it is.
But I'm using B5 powder solves in just water for a few weeks with good results. This doesn't stink and dries quickly without much irritation on my skin. More info about how to use it see: www.freewebs.com/krg/b5.html |

Minoxidil | ||
|
Btw, I have been using topical Minoxidil for some months with very good results on my hair.
Here some pics: www.haarweb.nl/forum/showthread.php?t=2116 It's Dutch language. Just look at the pics and the dates. "Nu" means "Now". (Keep in mind that quitting minoxidil usually means losing what you have gained within 3 months.) www.regrowth.com/hair_loss_treatments/minoxidil_rogaine/minoxidil_rogaine.cfm www.hairlosstalk.com/productreviews/minoxmow.htm www.hairsite.com/topical/t-Minoxidil.htm ---- @Pure, How is it going with your L-Arginine treatement? |

Hewk,
They're some pretty detailed pics! Is that yourself or artlan? If either. I don't like using anything topical anymore, lately i've started using aloe vera gel, seems to be pretty good for keeping my skin moisturised, but yet not oily at all. I'll have a look at the chemist next time for minoxidil. I'm not all that cashed up so I hope its on the cheapish side of things... I usually have alot of hair products (gel,wax) in my hair, so I think i'd rather try L-Arginine first. My hair loss isn't that noticeable at the moment, only to me I guess.. well, i hope anyway. Ta for them useful links |

Yes, thats me on those photo's.
I also want to try internal L-arginine. Topical L-Arginine is also possible: www.hairlosstalk.com/newsletter/article190.htm. But it's a bit expensive here in the Netherlands. |

Losing your hair when you're only 20 sucks.
I'll probably check a few chemists and health stores for l-arginine and that beta systerol (however its spelt) tomorrow. I need a hair cut as well, but the hair on the side of my head is so much thinner than that on top. Hopefully getting it cut won't make it appear worse. |

Artlan | ||

Where or where is ARTLAN.
Im curious if you are still using L-Arginine and if you've seen any results... or if you did start using saw palametto, results on how thats going I went to my chemist today, but couldnt find L-Arginine, and they wanted $150 for rogaine, so... hair loss for me continues. BUMP |

Hey Andrew....
I actually find the hair loss to be less visible when the hair is short, so don't be hesitant to get a hair cut. You can buy "generic" Rogaine (Minoxidil) at your nearest Walmart. It's about 35 dollars I believe. I am currently on Saw Palmetto, no real results so far, I'll be reporting as soon as anything occurs (good/bad) with my hair. In the mean time, this was brought up on another board, try L-Cysteine. From my readings it works closely with Vitamin B5, and perhaps mega-dosing with Pantothenic Acid causes a drawback on L-Cysteine. If your indeed going to try it, go for the NAC version which absorbs better. Thoughts? |

Topical Minoxidil | ||
|
The (as far as I know) cheapest Minoxidil can be bought from eBay. Make sure that the expiration date is ok.
Most people use 5% minoxidil (which is not recommended for women). 2% can also be taken by women. The normal dose is two times a day 1ml. (So 2ml per day.) A bottle of Minoxidil is usually 60ml, so about enough for 1 month. A pack of 4 bottles (4PK) can be bought from eBay for about $25. So about $25/4 months. The original brand is Rogaine/Regaine. Generic brands is usually Kirkland, which is also good. (Some say it's even better.) Buy it from a seller with a lot of positive feedback and a lot of sold purchases. For example from "prbproducts", from who I bought 2 times a 4PK. Keep in mind that when you drop minoxidil after using it for a while, you will loss the results you have gained within 4 months. |

Thanks for the all the useful feedback and info artlan and hewk.
I did get my hair cut yesterday, isn't as bad as I expected. Though today when i was doing my hair, run my hand through my hair, see all the stray hairs, argh! haha I live in Australia, no walmarts here heh. My chemist only stocked the generic rogaine, they had nothing else minoxidil instore, i was there for ages I think i'll search again early next week for all the products, rogaine, l-arginine, and L-Cysteine. I'd rather the vitamins instead of topical rogaine, ebay may be my only choice though. Ta for the helpful info hewk |

www.minoxidil.com this site is run by doctor Lee. He has different types of minox and xandrox which has azelic acid (sp?) supposed to be reduce DHT (lots of controversy on this though, there isnt solid evidence to support this). He also has 15% minox (the strongest available) and non smelling spiro. On top of all that he has minox with retin a which aids in absorption (documented proof on this one) and has minox without PPG, because some people have a bad reaction to it. Plus it reduce the "greasy" feeling minox can leave, hope this helps. Its expensive but a lot of people love his products and have great results with it, too. I use generic minox (Kirkland) with no problems just a little greasy. The spiro sounds good since its odorless....

A Solution? | ||
|
Guys!!!
A poster from HealthBoards prompted me to research the possible interaction between Cystine (Cysteine) and Pantothenic Acid (Vitamin B5). I found two conducted researches from the 80's that say that Pantothenic Acid reduces Cystine level in the body, and thus can be used to treat cystinosisa, a genetic disease characterized by high levels of lysosomal cystine. Here are two links: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entr...t=Abstract www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entr...t=Abstract ----- Now, in theory, that could explain why we are experiencing brittle and unhealthy hair. Pantothenic Acid has depleted our Cystine levels, the amino acids that make up and make our hair grow. Cystine, also has interaction with Methionine, another very important amino acid for our hairs. I don't want to get ahead of myself, but this looks really promising. Who here wants to give Cystine and Methionine a real chance? I am currently on Saw Palmetto and don't want to interfere with that treatment. |

Its about Pantethine not Pantothenic (B5) acid | ||
|
Its two different things. However, people are now taking Pantethine instead of B5 and seeing results at 600mg as opposed to 10grams of B5. Well its only one person that I know of. There is a thread at acne.org in the otc section. Pantethine is what B5 breaks down to in the body and has similar effects on CoA. Helps reduce sebum levels. The guy that has tried it was on B5 at first then swithched and just uses Pantethine by itself. He says his skin is really dry from it (in a good way). I dont really know much about its action, side effects, results, as not many people have talked about it. I know Dr's recommened 300mg-900mg of Pantethine to aid the heart in patients with heart problems. So, if doctors are doing that amount then mabye its safer than mega dosing on B5. There are no established limits on Pantethine. But since Pantethine and B5 have similar actions maybe the correlation of what Artlan has brought up has merit. I dont know. I just got some Pantethine, but am hesitant to try it even at low doses...Maybe someone can dig up some more infor

I'm losing my hair!! | ||
|
Well after 3 months of B5 and a 90% reduction in Acne, my hair is coming out! I have very thick full hair and no one in my family has ever gone bald. So the B5 must be the culprit. I am taking 10g/day and plan to for the next 3 months. I can't reduce the dosage and risk any outbreaks. I will only reduce if I have visible hair loss.
Now what I wonder is if the hair will grow back? Maybe if once it gets to a certain length the hair will fall, but will regrow? Since I wear my hair short if this is the case then I won't worry at all because my hair grows fast. |

I started using topical Minoxidil 5% in about Nov2003. Hair because noticable better in 2 weeks. Hair is now restored a lot. I'm not sure how much the B100-complex and Biotin helped, because it usually takes time before any results. I'm still using Minoxidil. Keep in mind that I can't tell 100% for sure the cause of my positive results. I might be Minoxidil, The vitamins or/and a drop in B5. -Comments: Photo's can be found here: www.haarweb.nl/forum/show...php?t=2116 It's Dutch, so just look at the photo's and the date. "Nu" means "Now". |
