I saw you've been taking advodart for 2 months. How long did you take it for you to notice a decrease in oil and acne?

There is no documented data on the longterm effects of dutasteride. Propecia has been around as proscar for just over ten years, but not only that there is a group of people on some island (Puerto Rico, not sure though) that are born deficit in DHT enzyme type II (what pro decreases). They have no hair loss nor prostate cancer. As for Dut it inhibits both type I and II, and there is no data on the inhibition of type I. It is speculated that it CAN control oil, b/c there is some located in the sebum glands. Also DHT type I is located in the brain, and now there is speculation that the inhibition of type I can lead to Alzheimers as well as mental fog, etc...Might not be good for mental health!
Hewk- I started taking B-5 35 days ago, noticed hairloss about the second week and it just got worse. I have been off it for a day. I started at 6g(1 day) then 7.5g(3 days), then 10g(20 days), dropped back down to 6g(7 days) and then 3g the remainder. |

doggz1999,
Towards the end of my treatment with Vitamin B5, I took about 1.5 grams a day. Hair loss didn't subside. I'd be careful if I were you. |

@Pjdizon,
Don't read that commercial website. It has been posted before. It's full with BS. Some statements are true, but it also has false statements. |

this is so crazy, if you guys are experiencing hair loss , why continue the b5?
you'd rather be bald than have acne? i really wanted to try the b5 regimen, but this topic has completely scared me off (i was gonna head to vitaminshoppe today to start my b5, then read this which stopped me) |

OK, here we go... | ||

I am officially now, after reading this threat, on my way off the B5. I've been taking 10g daily of B5 for about 3-4 months now. At first, my skin was clearing up at an amazing rate. I was completely clear with a mark or pimple rarely in sight. I have however noticed that when I would run my hands through my hair I would often pull out multiple strands. Now I've always had a full head of hair, and all though it still is pretty much full, it's gotten to the point where the hairs are so thin they are actually like wirey. They have no body. I cannot believe this. Not only that, my damn skin on my face is now starting to break out on top of the fact that the quality of my skin looks lifeless. I don't know what happened all of a sudden. I was taking ONLY b5 for this period. I just recently bought the B-150 complex from GNC 2 days ago and have been taking 1 of those a day. I cannot believe this. My skin will get oily as soon as I get off the B5. Would it be wise to completely stop taking it? Cut down to 7.5g daily? 5g? 2g? 1g? God, I can't believe I have to deal with this scht all over again. I thought I was seeing things too, until I read this thread. WOW.

get off that b5 RIGHT NOW , or you'll regret it later. Get your self some biotin and start taking that to try and restore your hair, its not worth losing your hair. |

the funny thing about b5 is that its NECESSARY for hair growth and to PREVENT hair loss...
but of course, the only necessary amounts is 10mg or so. seems like megadosing ( 10 g or more ) is doing adverse things to the body in the long run ( 2 months or more ).. i really wish there was a doctor or scientist to answer some of these questions. |

I'd like to clarify my last post. I am not even taking 10g a day as I said... I've been taking 5g all along. 10 500mg pills daily. 5 in AM, 5 in PM. What is recommended for preventing hair loss? Something that will not be too harsh in bringing about acne? Also, what would be the best method of stopping the B5 or bringing it down to a moderate level, ie 500mg daily? A total stoppage? or casually lowering the doses?

@Lilmac,
At the moment we don't know how B5 causes hairthinning/shedding on some people, but there are some theories. To decrease a possible deficiency in vitamines/minerals, you could try to take a B-complex, multivitamin, biotin and zinc. |

Here a case of someone who used accutane and experienced dry-skin and hairthinning.
This person thinks dry skin caused the hairthinning. www.hairlosshelp.com/forums/messageview.cfm?catid=10&threadid=31466&FTVAR_MSGDBTABLE= |

Thanks for this info, I came across it on HairLossForums.
The DHEA links seem to be broken. If B5 increases DHEA in the body, what can decrease it? Thanks! |

I have a full head of hair. No close male family members have ever went bald. I've been on B5 for over 2 months and I was shocked when I had my haircut and was told how thin and soft my hair was. My hair has always been thick and full.
I haven't experienced any hairloss yet. I am taking Evolution X B5 which is also full of B vitamins, biotin and zinc. I hope these will balance out the excessive amounts of B5. I hate to say at this early stage that B5 has greatly improved my acne because it could just be coincidence. But right now my complexion has been the best it's ever been in years. |

Hewk thanks for clarifying what DHEA is and how it affects acne and hair loss.
I am seriously considering trying Saw Palmetto as nothing else seems to work at this point |
