dpark419...when are your bloodwork results due back?

blood tests were normal | ||
|
Hey guys,
My bloodwork came back normal, which is good news. I talked with the doctor for a while recounting my experience with B5. He said that I had a couple options: a) get a prescription for propecia , b) get topical rogaine to see if it speeds up the healing process, and c) just wait it out and see if my body balances itself out. At this point, I'm most inclined to go with option C. If the hairloss isn't noticebly better a few months from now I'll go on propecia. I just don't want to keep pumping prescription drugs into my body. I'd much rather let my body try to even itself out after a year of abusing B5. I'll continue taking a few grams of fish oil a day to insure that I'm getting all the essential oils I need. I might incorporate a good multivitamin soon. That's it for now. Hopefully everything will work out |

Hello buddy!
I am glad to hear that your results came normal. Do you mind sending them to me by e-mail? I have mine, I'll send them to you as well. Regarding waiting for the body to balance out your system, unfortunately I don't think that it is a good choice. I've been waiting since June it seems, and it is getting worse and worse. Before you start to use Propecia and Rogaine, I would recommend try Saw Palmetto, I myself haven't tried it yet, but I am planning to after I finish my experiment with Zinc + B-50 Complex + Biotin regimen. I believe that Saw Palmetto will work because I think that the problem is with our hormones not a vitamin deficiency, hence the body can't restore it back to normal. I heard that Saw Palmetto is good for DHT and acts like Propecia, so if Saw Palmetto can help you, I believe Propecia can help you as well. Let me know what you think. Thanks! |

@Dpark419,
You just said that your bloodwork came back normal. But how do you know that it wasn't normal before? Also note that most doctors usually don't know anything else than Regaine and Propecia. Regaine is the old brandname for Minoxidil. But they don't have patent or something like that anymore, so know there are other minoxidil brands available, like "Member's Mark", Kirkland and Lee's. When you quit using minoxidil, everything you have gained with it, will be gone in about 3 months. www.geocities.com/bryan50...-minox.htm www.geocities.com/bryan50...-minox.htm I'm using 5% Minoxidil (about $30 per 4 months) and have good very good results while using it. These results in my case may also be caused a bit by other things, like lowering the B5 dose and extra vitamins (like biotin). MSM is also good for the hair quality (not really hairloss) and may speed up hairgrowth. Which I also used. Quote: |

That is one of the reasons I decided not to use Minoxidil, because once you start to use it you will need to use it everyday morning and night and when you stop using it your hair will return to where it was before treatment. So the new hairs will shed. It is also apparently messy to use.
That information on MSM is interesting. Has anyone on here been using it? I am thinking of getting some, what dose would be suitable? I see nutriworld sell 120 capsules of 1000 mg. |

I've been taking MSM for many months. Like that study Hewk posted said, it really does help make nails nice 'n healty in my case. It also seems to make my hair grow faster...
I take 2g a day of NOW Lingusil MSM. Lingusil and OptiMSM are said to be the purest forms. They are sold by various brands. You can buy MSM powder too and even MSM cream, shampoo, conditioner and toothpaste lol |

Hewk....I had a question.....
Solomio on ClearSkin.net mentioned that B5 decreases Cortisol and thus since Cortisol is a hormone it has an effect on DHT. Now, she speculates that if Zinc + Vitamin B6 is used, it will increase Cortisol to normal levels and thus restoring the DHT into normal levels. Am I getting it right? I am really interested in getting Saw Palmetto, however, i read that it decreases Cortisol, so if in theory B5 decreases it and Saw Palmetto decreases Cortisol as well than should I even bother? Hope you understand what I am trying to ask. Thanks! |

Lol, well if that's right it's annoying because I am taking zinc, b6, b5 and saw palmetto so my cortisol levels wont know whether they are coming or going
I would also be interested to hear what others have to say about the importance of cortisol levels and acne. |

Re: Saw Palmetto | ||

Solomio knows a lot.
I have seen the topic in which she talked about B5, Cortisol and DHT. I asked her how B5 is related to DHT, but she couldn't answer it. www.clearskin.net/viewtop...ht&start=0 Also a bit unclear: -Lowering DHT might give sexual problems. But she is talked about B5 is raising DHT. (Maybe a raise also give sexual problems, but I have never heard about that.) Check out the mail of Leung. Quote:Which confirms a study which I posted before in another B6 topic. It's probably pyridoxal (P-5-P)(more active form) that should be used instead of normal B6 (pyridoxine). Quote: I don't think it's normal IF Dr. Leung has had hundreds of patients without sideeffects of a megadose of b5. More info can be found here: members.bellatlantic.net/...esity.html Which I want to OCR (graphical text to text on the PC). Artlan, where did you read that SP decreases cortisol? |

Pure or anyone else in the UK can you please tell me where you order your Optimsm from.
I looked in H&B today and their msm is not Optimsm or lingusuil msm. Nutriworld online sell MSM but I am not sure if it is OptiMSM? Thanks |

oi mate. Yeah you can buy NOW Lignisul MSM from Nutriworld
here: www.nutriworld.co.uk/cgi/...nts_8.html It is Lignisul but a bit pricey at 15 pounds for 120 caps 1000mg each (just to give you an idea, I bought 240 caps of this same product for $14 from the States!) Also check out this website www.a1msm.co.uk/ for Lignisul MSM in the UK. Their 120 capsule 1000mg product is 15 pounds too but they also sell bottles of 300, 600 capsules and powder. Plus they offer free shipping on all UK orders |

Here are a few quotes that I found on Google Groups.
"one article did say that saw palmetto inhibitted type 1 5a reductase (the type in the skin - type 2 is found in prostate and there is a 3rd type, that is used by adrenals to reduce cortisol to cortisone" "Saw palmetto contains beta sitosterol which has been shown to lower cortisol." I know that Cortisol effects the Adernal Glands and thus effecting DHT. What I need to find out is if my Cortisol level is low or high, than I believe I could proceed with the right treatment, although I heard that it's impossible to bring you Cortisol levels up..... What do you think about Saw Palmetto? Thank you! |

Re: v | ||

(Don't measure your cortisol level just after you have exercised, because then it's usually higher.)
SP might be a solution for you. There are not much good SP studies in the treatment of hairloss. If you buy SP, buy minimal 85% standardized Saw Palmetto. They usually take 2times a day 160mg. I have bought SP myself 2 months ago. But I haven't used it yet, because my hairs are much better than before. |

Thanks Pure. I did use that link you provided but it did not say on the website if it was Lignisul or optimsn. I emailed them and it is Lignisul msm.
Just for your interest, H&B are selling 240 x 750mg for 12:99 so taking 2 a day works out better than the others in the UK but the lady in the shop did not know if it was Lignisul or not. |

H&B's MSM is just regular MSM, not Lignisul or OptiMSM. It's true it's sold at a good price though and it worked OK for me last year in conjunction with NOW Lignisul MSM. Right now I'm only using the NOW one because I got a good deal on a big bottle from the US.
Ah yes, and I've been taking 3g of arginine for 6 weeks for hair thinning and general hair health and it's definitely made a difference. My hair is now thicker and healthier like it was before B5. As I said last time, people with hair thinning problems should consider taking arginine. It seems to be working great for me but I'm not sure how it will work for others as I only had mild hair thinning... |

Re: v | ||

@Pure,
Do you think B5 has thinned your hairs? If so, did you take a B-complex at the start of B5 and have you done bloodtests? |
|||

Yeah B5 definitely made my hair thinner - and I never even took the maximun 10g dose, less than half in fact.
When I started taking B5 my hair was healthy but it got even healthier with B5 at first (B5 is a good vitamin for the hair when taken at normal amounts), but after months on B5 therapy my hair got thinner. I haven't done any blood tests these past couple of years. I have been taking a B complex supplement for about 6 months now but it doesn't contain high potencies of the main B vitamins (it's the one I posted about last time called Complete B). I still like it though. For me the problem with taking a B-50 or a higher potency B complex is that I don't feel like I need those amounts, plus every time I take B-50 I always break out... |

Re: v | ||

@Pure,
I forgot to ask: -Do you have thinning hairs on the side (above the ears) or on the back of the head, or only on the top? -Have you measured your bloodpressure? -Any other sideeffects, like erection problems? |
|||
pure(d) |
v | ||

I have long hair (shoulder length), long on the sides too, and when it's thin it's usually the side hairs that are thinner.
And in my case the only other side effect I've experienced from B5 is weightloss |

Pure, did you have hair loss as well or only the thining?
So you say that L-Arginine restored your hair quality? Thanks |
